You’ll be ahead of the curve when you install a new outdoor sprinkler system in the fall beating the spring rush! And with the intrusive nature of irrigation, you’re lawn will have plenty of time to recover and you’ll typically see very little evidence of the new irrigation system installation. How to winterize your lawn sprinklers? #IrrigationAtlanta standard

A common question for those with yard, garden, or lawn irrigation systems. There are several things that must be done to winterize a sprinkler system. Since most systems don’t use auto-drain valves, we are just going to address those types of systems. If your system does not use auto-drain valves, then an air compressor must be used to blow the water out of the zones. Turn off the main water supply to the sprinkler system, and hook up an air compressor to the system. Pressurize the tank to about 60 psi and then open on of the valves manually. The old Farmer’s Almanac’s annual Winter outlook says, singles out the Southeast in particular as an area where it will be cold and rainy. The report calls for “below-normal” temperatures in the region, “with an unseasonable chill reaching as far south as the Gulf Coast, with above-average precipitation.” Below normal temperatures can cause a major impact on your irrigation system.
