It’s not unusual when you start up your irrigation system to find some leaky sprinkler heads, particularly the older your system gets and if you use your irrigation system quite frequently (although, remember irrigation is meant to supplement rainfall to provide the precise amount of water needed for a healthy landscape. Most people, however, overwater!). Old, leaky sprinkler heads can cost you a lot in wasted water! And just like anything with moving parts, over time they wear out. And just like anything you own that is mechanical, maintenance is key. If you notice an unusual amount of water, water standing around a sprinkler head or just a broken sprinkler head, don’t put off getting that fixed. You may think there is an insignificant amount of water costs involved but every little bit of water more than you need, is wasted water.
