So how can people who have an irrigation system help conserve water? The best place to start is to have your irrigation system audited. A certified irrigation contractor can perform the audit and they will carefully examine and test your irrigation system. They will then create an estimate or “report” for you detailing any problems with the system and including suggestions on how to improve that system. Many contractors will also suggest a watering schedule showing how often and how long you should water during each month of the year. (See the Recommended Audit Guidelines produced by the Irrigation Association.) After you have had your system audited, you can go from there to begin making the necessary changes to your irrigation system. It is very wise to use a contractor who is associated with the Irrigation Association. Not all irrigation contractors follow the same guidelines especially if they are not certified. #conservewithirrigation
